PACE TEAM

Pace Team Information

REMINDER:

This is NOT a race!  It is a training run, so our pacers will be there to help you keep a steady pace throughout the run.

RUN/WALK PACES - starting at 6:00am

  • 5/1 (5 Minute Run With 1 Minute Walk Interval)
    • 11:00-12:30 min/mile
  • 4/2 (4 Minute Run With 2 Minute Walk Interval)
    • 12:30-13:30 min/mile

RUN PACES - start time depends on pace (see below)

  • Groups from 7:30 to 11:30 minutes per mile, in 30-second increments (i.e. 7:30, 8:00, 8:30, etc.)
  • 6:00am start - anyone running 11:00 min/mile or higher
  • 6:30am start - anyone running 10:30 min/mile or faster

Pacers will be carrying signs with their pace at the start.  You are NOT assigned a specific pace group.

PATH ETIQUETTE & COMMUNICATION

For safety (and because it's the right thing to do when sharing the path), we remind everyone to practice OUTSTANDING path etiquette:

  • Stay to the right unless you are passing someone. ALWAYS look behind you before you pass or turn around.
  • When passing someone, announce your presence with something like "On Your Left" - give plenty of notice and speak loudly and clearly.
  • Never run more than two abreast - if you are in a particularly busy area, run single file.
  • If you need to stop, look behind you, then step off the path to the right.
  • Always look both ways—at least twice—before entering or exiting a path, when you are approaching intersections and at aid stations.
  • Be defensive - i.e. always assume that there is a biker coming from behind you, or that the car won't see you crossing the street
  • Be considerate and remember that you are not the only person on the path - other people have the same rights and responsibilities as you!
  • Call out hazards (i.e. "Bike Back", potholes, etc.)

RUN/WALKERS: Here are some tips for running in groups:

  • Hold your right hand up in the air about 5 seconds before you switch to walking
  • Look behind the group before you start walking, in case someone is running behind you.
  • Synchronize your watches
    • At the beginning of the run
    • At each Aid Station
